Facility rules and regulations
- The Pointe is committed to ensuring a respectful environment free of violence and harassment towards staff, clients and guests. Anyone who does not comply may be asked to leave.
- The Pointe reserves the right to take precautions and reasonable steps to ensure the safety of the public, exhibitors and animals.
- Animals have the right-of-way in all areas of the site.
- Individuals are solely responsible for any loss, injury or damage incurred while participating in or watching activities held at The Pointe.
- The Pointe is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged property.
- No pets are allowed inside the facility unless they are a certified service animal or authorized for a specific event. Authorized pets must be kept on a leash while on site.
- Smoking or vaping is not permitted inside the facility.
- All alcohol must be served and consumed in accordance with Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission regulations. Non-compliance will result in removal from the site.
- Glass bottles are not permitted inside the facility.
- Indoor use of motorized carts, scooters, UTVs, etc. is strictly prohibited.
- Do not remove, deface or cover any posted advertisements, banners, signage or similar promotional materials.
- External promotional material is not allowed without permission from The Pointe.
- Commercial activities are not allowed without permission from The Pointe.
Participant rules and regulations
- All participants ride at their own risk.
- All users must sign a waiver before utilizing the facility. No exceptions.
- Applicable drop-in fees must be purchased prior to utilizing the facilities.
- It is highly recommended that all riders wear an approved safety helmet/equipment.
- Drop-in Riding is for public riding only. Events, clinics, paid lessons or group activities must be booked as private rentals.
- All gates must be closed and manure removed using the provided bucket after finishing your ride.
- Riders under the age of 18 are not permitted to ride a stallion on site.
- Do not leave horses unattended.
- Do not allow horses to roll in the arena.
- Do not feed animals in the arena.
- No pets allowed in the arena area (except certified service animals or authorized event participants).
- Horses that display unruly behavior such as biting or kicking may be required to leave the arena. Horses with volatile temperament must be tagged with a red ribbon tied to their tail.
Equipment use in the arena is allowed under the following circumstances:
- There is a consensus across all riders on equipment used.
- Equipment must be removed after use.
Arena etiquette
Passing
- Always pass on the inside
- Announce your intentions when passing another rider
- Don't cut off other riders
Distance
- Keep at least one horse length between you and another horse
- Keep a safe distance between horses on the inside and outside tracks
- Be mindful of available space when lunging horses
Right-of-way
- Faster riders have the right-of-way
- Faster riders should ride on the inside
- Go with the flow: It’s easier and safer to ride in the same direction as the majority of traffic
- Green horses and beginner riders should be given more space
- Stay off the rail and out of the way by using the center of the arena to fix equipment, mount/dismount or take a break
- Cell phone usage should be reserved for the staging ring
Please be courteous and respectful, and treat others as you would want to be treated.
Barn rules and regulations
Parking
- After loading or unloading a trailer, proceed to the designated parking area west of the loading zone.
- Keep the loading area clear for others.
Safety
- No smoking or vaping inside the facility.
- No dogs allowed (except certified service animals or authorized event participants).
- Do not tie horses in the aisles or alleyways.
- No riding inside the barn.
- Keep stall doors closed at all times.
- Children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult at all times.
- No running, sudden movements or loud noises that may startle the animals.
- No open-toed shoes or sandals.
- Report any unsafe conditions: Immediately notify staff at 780-464-8110.
- Do not leave feed, hay, tools, tacks, chairs or equipment in aisles.
Cleanliness and respect
- Clean up all animal waste, spills or messes.
- Shavings are available for purchase at the front desk in the lobby.
- No outside shavings are permitted.
- Do not dump water in stalls. Use floor drains to properly dispose of water.
- Respect other barn users: Be considerate of others and their animals and avoid disruptive behaviour.
- Return equipment to its original location after use.
- No staples, tape, paint, markers, pens, etc. are to be used on the stalls or barn walls, including the plywood.
- Only use supplied clipboards, corkboards and tacks for posting information.
Wash bay rules
Cleanliness
- Clean up after use: Please put all manure, hair and debris into the buckets before leaving the wash bay. This will prevent clogged drains.
- Rinse the area: Hose down the wash bay floor after washing your animal to prevent buildup and odours.
- Keep area tidy: Coil up the hoses and put away items when finished.
Safety
- Always tie safely: Use a quick-release knot for animal safety.
- Never leave unattended: Do not leave animals tied up unattended.
- Avoid startling animals: No running or loud noises.
- Keep movements calm and voices low.
- Maintain space: Use caution when working around other tied animals.
Courtesy and respect
- Limit time during busy hours: Be mindful of others waiting.
- No grooming or tacking up
- Report problems: Inform staff of issues or damage immediately by calling 780-464-8110.
Risk and liability disclaimer
By entering this facility, you acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with being near livestock, including:
- Unpredictable animal behavior
- Kicking, biting or trampling
- Dust, allergens and strong odors
Even well-trained animals can react unexpectedly to unfamiliar sights and sounds. Please avoid sudden movements or loud
noises.
Guests assume full responsibility for their own safety.
Strathcona County, its staff, volunteers and event organizers are not liable for any injuries, losses or damages resulting from:
- Animal interactions
- Accidental contact or crowd movement
- Environmental hazards on the site
Safety Rules for Guests:
- Keep a safe distance from animals at all times
- Supervise children closely
- No flash photography near animals
